Athens is the capital of Greece and only a short distance to the coast of Pireas, Keratsini and Palaio Faliro.
"Athens ( ATH-enz; Greek: Αθήνα, romanized: Athína [aˈθina] (listen); Ancient Greek: Ἀθῆναι, romanized: Athênai (pl.) [atʰɛ̂ːnai̯]) is the capital city of Greece. With a population close to 4 million it is the largest city in Greece, and the 7th largest city in the European Union. Athens dominates and is the capital of the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years and its earliest human presence beginning somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennia BC.Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. It was a centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, and the home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum. It is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, largely because of its cultural and political impact on the European continent—particularly Ancient Rome. In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Greece. In 2021, Athens' urban area hosted more than three and a half million people, which is around 35% of the entire population of Greece. It is also a tourist spot, with many people coming every year.
Athens is a Beta-status global city according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and is one of the biggest economic centers in Southeastern Europe. It also has a large financial sector, and its port Piraeus is both the largest passenger port in Europe, and the third largest in the world. The Municipality of Athens (also City of Athens), which actually constitutes a small administrative unit of the entire city, had a population of 664,046 (in 2011) within its official limits, and a land area of 38.96 km2 (15.04 sq mi). The Athens Urban Area or Greater Athens extends beyond its administrative municipal city limits, with a population of 3,090,508 (in 2011) over an area of 412 km2 (159 sq mi). Athens is also the southernmost capital on the European mainland and the warmest major city in Europe.
The heritage of the Classical Era is still evident in the city, represented by ancient monuments, and works of art, the most famous of all being the Parthenon, considered a key landmark of early Western civilization. The city also retains Roman and Byzantine monuments, as well as a smaller number of Ottoman monuments, while its historical urban core features elements of continuity through its millennia of history. Athens is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Acropolis of Athens and the medieval Daphni Monastery. Landmarks of the modern era, dating back to the establishment of Athens as the capital of the independent Greek state in 1834, include the Hellenic Parliament and the so-called "Architectural Trilogy of Athens", consisting of the National Library of Greece, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Academy of Athens. Athens is also home to several museums and cultural institutions, such as the National Archeological Museum, featuring the world's largest collection of ancient Greek antiquities, the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Benaki Museum, and the Byzantine and Christian Museum. Athens was the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896, and 108 years later it hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics, making it one of the few cities to have hosted the Olympics more than once." Horrible, horrible. I saw bad reviews before I booked and figured only people who have bad experiences leave reviews. The boats are old and poorly maintained. Let me tell you: the sail TORE IN HALF during our trip. I asked to speak to the Athens manager and he hung up on me when I asked him to help us out. Truly awful. Avoid at all costs.

Its a trap. We rented two boats in Mykonos. Neither of them was operational. In one damaged engine cooling. In the second, the sail is stuck. If it weren't for an experienced skipper, we would have gone to sea. There, the engine would seize, and the sail, pulled on the capstan, would surely break off. The company would have asked for money for the "damaged" yachts. After a report we waited 3 days for reactions from the company. We finally flew to Athens ourselfs. No more.

We rented a sailing boat with Kiriacoulis in the south of France. The boat was in a poor shape, and many parts had to be replaced (upon our demand) at check in. We had an issue at see on day 4 (Genoa topped broke due to over usage!) and maintenance / support of the crew was poor (actually inexistant). Following our trip, no one dares or cares providing an answer to our complaints... avoid this company by any means! In 15 years of charting with other companies I’ve never had such a bad experience

Charter was an older boat and rigging was salt encrusted (but we were in the Med, so its to be expected). Hand over despite language problems was thorougher with focus on the important stuff. Loads of spares on board and hand back to fleet manager was smooth and hassle free. Having read some bad reviews I was nervous: but was very happy with my experience with them - hence this review.

I also used Kiriacoulis and had to wait several hours to get on the boat due to battery issues. Two days later while at sea the engine would not start due to battery issues so I had to sail into the marina with no engine, in good weather this is doable but in bad weather could be unnecessarily dangerous. This is awful maintenance.

Never ever use this company. They clearly operate a fix on fail policy with regard to maintenance - not ideal on a charter yacht. Many non - working gauges, twisted, heavily salted lines, a broken swim ladder and the piéce de resistance, a sea cock with metal fatigue, opening up a 50mm hole below the water in a F6-7. No apology from Kiriacoulis - just a desperate panic to fix the hole for the following day's charter party. Use at your own risk.
